Several injured after car rams into crowd outside primary school in China

Beijing, Nov 19 (EFE).- Several people were injured on Tuesday morning after a vehicle hit a group of students and parents outside a primary school in Changde, in the central Chinese province of Hunan, state broadcaster CCTV reported.

The incident occurred while the students were in the vicinity of the Yong’an Primary School, located in Dingcheng District, to start the school day.

Local authorities confirmed to different media that they were investigating the incident and gathering information to determine the number of people affected and the severity of the injuries.

Unauthenticated videos circulating on social media platform X, which is banned in China, show a man being forcibly restrained after being pulled out of a white SUV.

The number of indiscriminate attacks against pedestrians has multiplied in the Asian country in the past year.

They are usually perpetrated by attackers with a knife, although there have also been reports of attacks on crowds.

The latest incident occurs just a week after a 62-year-old man rammed his vehicle into a group of people in front of a sports center in the Chinese city of Zhuhai, leaving at least 35 dead and 43 injured before fleeing.

This latest case has intensified concerns about security in public spaces in the country.

Last year, another attack on a crowd of pedestrians, also in Guangzhou province, left six dead and 29 injured.

Chinese media often refer to such incidents, of which there have also been several cases in recent years, as “acts of revenge against society” since they are attacks in which the perpetrator acts against innocent people out of frustration due to legal, sentimental or commercial disputes. EFE
