In a strongly nationalistic speech in which he promised “the complete restoration of America,” Trump declared that “America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on Earth, inspiring the awe and iration of the entire world.”

“China is operating the Panama Canal. And we didn’t give it to China. We gave it to Panama, and we’re taking it back,” Trump said adding that the Panama Canal was “ foolishly given to the country of Panama” referencing the 1977 Panama Canal Treaties, which transferred the canal’s control to Panama in 1999.
