Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa forms new interim government

Damascus, Mar 29 (EFE) – Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa announced Saturday the formation of a new interim government at the presidential Palace in Damascus.

“We are witnessing the birth of a new phase in our national process, and the formation of a new government today is a declaration of our common will to build a new State,” al-Sharaa said in a speech at the Ceremony announcing the formation of the new Syrian government.

The president affirmed that the new transitional government will be rooted in transparency and ability and will not allow corruption to infiltrate it.

“Our plan for the future will rely on several axes, including preserving and developing human resources, and seeking to attract Syrian human resources from abroad,” he added.

Al-Sharaa also underscored that the new government will reform the energy sector to maintain sustainability and provide 24-hour electricity, adding, it will also farmers to ensure food security.

“We will seek to rehabilitate industry, protect national products, and create an encouraging environment for investment in all sectors. We will also strive to reform the monetary situation, strengthen the Syrian currency, and prevent manipulation,” the President stated.

Among other goals, he set out to attract investments and work on laws that govern public-private partnerships, all of which aim to encourage investments in strategic projects such as infrastructure.

Al Sharaa affirmed that the government plans to strengthen the Syrian currency, maintain the stability of the exchange rate, and prevent its manipulation, for which they will review the fiscal policy.

He also stressed the plans to protect the citizens and improve stability. He added that the government aims to build a professional national army.

The president reiterated that the new government aims to restore security in Syria and will work with partners to confront threats, which defines the interest in maintaining stable foreign relations.

“Foreign Minister of the new government Asaad al-Shibani said that on this historic day, we witness the announcement of the first government with free will.

Minister of Defense in the new government Murhaf Abu Qasra said, “We will restore Syria’s rightful army after the former deposed regime defamed its reputation.” EFE
