Gaza City, Apr 22 (EFE).- At least 20 people were killed and dozens more injured in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip in the last few hours, medical sources in the enclave confirmed to EFE on Tuesday.

Of the dead, at least nine were killed in an attack on a house in the heart of the city of Khan Younis, in the south of the Strip.

The Gaza Civil Defense said early morning on Telegram that its teams were still searching for missing people in the rubble of the house.

The rest were killed in attacks on Gaza City and cities in the north of the territory.

According to the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, citing its correspondents on the ground, at least five Palestinians were killed, including a child and a woman, in an airstrike on a tent for displaced persons in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.

In addition, Israeli aircraft bombed a family’s home west of Gaza City, killing several people, according to the agency.

More than 51,200 people have died in Israeli attacks on Gaza since it began its offensive against Hamas, following the Islamist group’s attack on Oct. 7, 2023, according to health authorities in the Strip.

Of these, more than 1,800 have lost their lives since Israel resumed fighting on Mar. 18, unilaterally breaking the ceasefire in place since mid-January.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted in recent days that he is not currently considering ending the offensive and that he intends to recover the hostages without “surrendering to Hamas,” despite the fact that a majority of Israelis prefer an agreement with the Islamists that would return the hostages before continuing the war, according to the latest polls.

Meanwhile, his finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, said Monday in a radio interview that recovering the hostages was not the most important thing, making it clear that his priority was destroying Hamas. EFE
