Riyadh, May 13 (EFE).– US President Donald Trump landed Tuesday in Riyadh, opening his first international tour with a strategically significant visit to Saudi Arabia, as Washington seeks to reassert its influence in a region grappling with conflict.

Trump’s trip to Riyadh marks the start of his first international tour since taking office in January. The four-day visit will also include stops in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Trump was welcomed at the Royal Terminal of King Khaled International Airport by Saudi Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, known as “MBS,” widely regarded as the kingdom’s most powerful figure.
MBS greeted Trump at the foot of the aircraft stairs and accompanied him to the Royal Hall.
The presidential plane was escorted into Saudi airspace by as many as six F-15 fighter jets. Journalists traveling with the president reported a smooth and uneventful flight from the United States.
During his stay in Saudi Arabia, Trump is expected to inaugurate a US-Saudi investment forum and hold meetings with senior of the royal family.
The visit is aimed at deepening economic ties, with a particular focus on trade and investment.

However, the trip also comes at a pivotal time for the region.
The US istration is working to reshape nuclear negotiations with Iran, safeguard shipping lanes in the Red Sea, and revive peace efforts between Israel and Palestine, while also seeking clarity on the future of Syria following the fall of the Assad regime. EFE
