Cannes, , (EFE).- Pedro Pascal, Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, and Austin Butler lit up the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday with the premiere of Eddington, a horror western set during the COVID-19 pandemic, directed by American filmmaker Ari Aster and competing for the Palme d’Or.
Pascal caused a frenzy as he stepped out of his car on the Croisette, dressed entirely in black, sporting a mustache, dark sunglasses, and a tie.
Moments earlier, Phoenix arrived in a classic tuxedo, accompanied by his partner, actress Rooney Mara.
Emma Stone wore a striking white dress with a dramatic circular collar that extended over her shoulders like a stiff ruffle.
Her fiery short hair, slicked back, and emerald earrings contrasted sharply with the outfit, completing the bold look.
The trio ascended the steps of the Palais des Festivals alongside Butler, who paused on the red carpet to sign autographs, director Ari Aster, and the rest of the Eddington team.
The film is one of the most anticipated titles in this year’s official competition.
The buzz was evident in the number of stars attending the premiere. Angelina Jolie turned heads in a pale pink gown and was greeted with red roses from a fan upon arrival.
Also present were jury led by Juliette Binoche; British actor Harris Dickinson, who is debuting his directorial film Urchin in the “Un Certain Regard” section on Saturday; and Natalie Portman, who voices a character in the animated film Arco by Ugo Bienvenu.
Spanish directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, actor Joel Edgerton, actress Julia Garner, and legendary French filmmaker Claude Lelouch also made appearances.
Lelouch’s classic film “Un homme et une femme” is featured on the official poster of the festival’s 78th edition. EFE
