International Desk (EFE).- Austria won Eurovision 2025, the 69th edition of the festival, on Saturday with the song “Wasted Love.”
This entry stood out for its emotionality, risky staging, and the impressive vocal skills of the artist.
JJ, aged 24, is the son of an Austrian father and Filipino mother who spent part of his childhood in Dubai before moving to Austria.

Trained at the Vienna State Opera and having studied classical music, JJ combines his countertenor with pop influences, allowing him to tackle pieces that blend classical and contemporary.
“Wasted Love” is his debut recording, co-written with Teya (who represented Austria at the 2023) and Thomas Turner, that merges lyrical elements with a crescendo that flows into electronic and techno sounds.
The lyrics of “Wasted Love” explore the pain of unrequited love. The song talks about emotional distance and the feeling of emptiness after a break-up.
The composition is notable for its honesty and vulnerability, connecting with the audience through the universality of heartbreak. EFE
