Former US President Joe Biden diagnosed with ‘aggressive form’ of prostate cancer

Washington (EFE).- Former United States President Joe Biden (2021-2025), aged 82, has been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer with bone metastases, his office said in a statement on Sunday.

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” it said.

On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (high-grade prostate cancer) with bone metastases, it said.

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” it added.

“The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians,” it concluded.

Biden left the White House on January as the oldest sitting US president.

During his time in office, questions were raised about his ability to continue in office due to his age and health.

The Democrat dropped out of the race for re-election in mid-2024 to the candidacy of his vice-president, Kamala Harris, who was defeated in the election by Donald Trump.

In early 2024, Biden’s physician declared him fit to continue in office following a physical examination.

In February 2023, Biden underwent successful surgery to remove a cancerous lesion from his chest, after which the White House physician reassured him that no further treatment was necessary. EFE
