Washington, May 25 (EFE) – United States President Donald Trump on Sunday criticized Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, the worst in weeks, and said he was considering sanctions against Moscow because President Vladimir Putin was “killing a lot of people.”
“I don’t know what’s wrong with him. What the hell happened to him? Right? He’s killing a lot of people. I’m not happy about that,” Trump told reporters at the airport in Morristown, New Jersey, as he prepared to return to Washington.
Sunday’s bombings left at least 12 dead and 79 wounded after Russia launched hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles on the final day of the 1,000-prisoner swap agreed to last week in Istanbul.
Trump said he was considering imposing sanctions on Putin over the latest offensive.
“Always gotten along with him, but he’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it at all,” Trump said.
Since returning to power in January and beginning to mediate between Russia and Ukraine, Trump has warned several times about the possibility of imposing new sanctions on Moscow if the Kremlin does not make efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement.
Given the scale of the Russian attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday called on international actors, especially the United States and European countries, to increase pressure against Russia. EFE
