New York, May 28 (EFE).- Business magnate Elon Musk announced his departure from Donald Trump’s istration Wednesday, after saying he was disappointed with the Republican’s mega-tax and budget plan, which he said undid his work as an efficiency advisor.
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk wrote Wednesday night in a brief message on his X .
The entrepreneur said the mission of the Department of Government Efficiency, an initiative focused on reducing bureaucracy and federal spending, “The (department’s) mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”
Musk had already said he intended to leave the government and focus on his companies, especially the aerospace company SpaceX, which on Tuesday conducted its ninth rocket test launch with the goal of getting humanity to Mars.
In fact, the billionaire founder of Tesla gave an interview Tuesday during the rocket launch to the CBS Sunday Morning program, which on Wednesday published excerpts in advance of its broadcast Sunday, in which he expressed “disappointment.”
Musk criticized the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” which Trump dubbed the House of Representatives last week and sent to the US Senate for discussion.
“Frankly, I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, which not only increases the budget deficit, but doesn’t reduce it, and undermines the work the DOGE team is doing,” Musk said in a segment of the show.
This weekend, the tycoon also hinted that he was planning to put politics aside, telling X that he was spending all his time working and sleeping in “conference rooms, servers, and factories” and that he wanted to be “super-focused on X, xAI, and Tesla.” EFE
